Reciprocal Borrowing and BC InterLibrary Connect
The Cariboo Regional District Library participates in BC InterLibrary Connect (ILC). Search other participating libraries by selecting BC InterLibrary Connect as the location in our catalogue. ILC requests are made with your CRDL library card and sent to your home branch for pickup.
Visiting another library in BC? Easily borrow from another public library with your CRDL card through the BC OneCard programme. Each library sets their own limit on how many items may be borrowed. If you are visiting a CRD library branch from another area of BC, register in-person with your home library card and photo ID. You may borrow 5 physical items at a time and utilize local services. Digital resources such as Libby eBooks and eMagazines are not accessible with a BC OneCard account. Return items to any BC Public Library.
The BC OneCard programme has replaced our reciprocal borrowing with the Thompson Nicola Regional District Library. If you live outside the Cariboo Region but would like to access one of our branches, please bring your TNRDL card to register as a BCOne card patron. As of December 31, 2023, we will no longer issue CRDL cards to TNRD residents. If you have a TNRD address associated with your CRDL card, you will not be able to renew your card when it expires at the end of 2023. Instead, you will be asked to bring in your TNRL card to update your account. If you do not have a TNRL card we will activate your CRDL card as a BCOne card.
Follow these steps to search the catalogue for items outside of the Cariboo, via ILC:
1. Search our catalogue, making sure the library is set to BC Interlibrary Connect (scroll up to the top of the list of libraries on the drop-down menu). You will see all participating libraries under the BC Interlibrary Connect option.
2. Click “place a hold.” Log in to your account. Ensure all fields are correct and click on the “submit” button. The item will be shipped to your home CRD library branch.
3. You are finished! Depending on the participating library, you can request books, audiobooks, movies, and more!
4. If you need assistance, call or visit your local CRD library branch.
InterLibrary Loans
Can’t find an item you want in our catalogue? Try finding your desired item in Illume, a BC-wide library catalogue that allows requests for physical books and journals to be sent to your home library. Search in Illume when you cannot find a book in a CRD library branch or through ILC. Interlibrary Loans through Illume will not lend out DVDs, Audiobooks, or CDs. You can request up to 5 books at a time and cannot renew them, but the typical loan period of 4 weeks still applies. All card holders can request ILL books.
Once you find the item you are looking for, click the Request button and fill out the associated form. Library staff will process your request and contact you once it is ready for pick-up. You can also visit or call your local CRD library branch to place an Illume request.
